Uganda’s long distance runner Munyo Solomon Mutai, 25,  won a silver medal in the Marathon of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, 15th April 2018 at the Southport Broadwater Parklands in Gold Coast city, Australia.

Mutai completed the race in two hours, 19 minutes and 2 seconds.

This was a far much improved performance for Mutai who finished 4th at the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 2018 Marathon was won by Austrialia’s Michael Shelly, retaining his title in 2:16:46.

Scotland’s Robbie Simpson finished third to bag bronze with a timing of 2:19:36.

Another Ugandan, Alex Chesakit managed a top 10 finish, coming 7th with a timing of 2:23:06.

Meanwhile, Alex Chemonges did not finish the race.

The marathon was the final event for Uganda at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Uganda finished 15th on the medals table standing, having won six medals in total at the games.

Of the six medals, three are gold, a silver and two bronze – one better than at the last Games in Glasgow.
