
Rayon Sport lost 2-0 to Mozambique’s Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol but advanced 3-2 on aggregate to reach the group stages of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Rwanda league champions who were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns had won the first leg in Kigali 3-0.
On a night in Mozambique, Isaac de Carvalho scored a brace for the hosts in the 30th and 46th minutes but the attempted come back was stopped by the Rwanda side by defending solidly for the remaining parts of the game.
“I am very happy with the boys,” Rayon Sports coach Ivan Minneart said after the game. “This is football and sometimes you fail to win but reach your target. I am happy for our reaction in the second half after coming short in first half,” added the former AFC Leopards Coach.
Rayon Sport joins Tanzania’s Yanga, Kenya’s Gor Mahia and Sudan’s Al Hilal as sides from the CECAFA region that have reached the group stages of the competition.

The draw for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage is set for Saturday, April 21 at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
However APR reached quarter finals in 2003 but lost to Asante Kotoko.
