As Ponsiano Lwakataka celebrated the Masaka Rally overall win, Godfrey Nsereko and Edwin Kalule were equally joyous in Masaka.
Godfrey Nsereko and Edwin Kalule were victories in the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) and Two-Wheel Drive (2WD) categories respectively.
A former co-driver, Nsereko posted the fastest times to claim his second victory in the CRC category this season.
“This event was very crucial for me and my team. After losing on points in Jinja, we needed to get back on top regardless.
“The roads were favorable for good speeds and our driving keeps improving every event,” said Nsereko.
With the victory in his Toyota Allex, Nsereko extended his lead on the CRC leader to 40 points.
“Now that we won in Masaka, we continue to aim for consistency throughout the season and keep up the challenge against fierce competition from subarus md Evos in the CRC class,” he said.
Brian Kabenge finished second; the Subaru driver is now five points behind Nsereko on the CRC leaderboard.
Edwin Kalule on the other hand extended his championship lead after cruisng his Toyota Celica to the class win.
“Masaka was really tough especially when it started to rain before CS1. However, we started well and managed to go through the 41kms.
“With three sections left, we were running third. Took advantage of Musa Mulimira’s misfortune and we moved to second. So we entered the last section with a do or die mentality,” said Kalule.
In second place was Timothy Gawaya in a Toyota Starlet
Didas Matsiko sealed the third podium position in 2WD.
Kalule and co-driver Micheal Kizito now lead the category with 52 points; 15 points ahead of Gawaya.
