Uganda Cricket today released its final 14 for the all important Division 3 World Cricket League qualifiers in Oman.
Uganda who were Division 4 winners in May will face five other nations in the desert of Oman as they compete for the only available spots to Division 2.
Uganda were relegated to Division 4 last year after a horror show in their own backyard but the Cricket Cranes have managed to get themselves back into Division 3 quick time and will now look for upward momentum to join the bigger boys in Division 2.
The 14 man squad had a surprise omission of young wicket keeper Fred Achelam with his place taken by part time wicket keeper batsman Arnold Otwani.
Otwani was part of the team that took part in the dreaded home series and had been left out of the side for the last three tours for the Cricket Cranes.
Achelam didn’t do a lot to hurt his place in the side, he was man of match in the all important game against Denmark in Malaysia but that was not enough to convince the selectors to keep him in the side. His consolation is a place on the reserves in case the heat gets to any of the 14 players.
The other omissions from the side that was victorious in Malaysia were expected with new comers Dinesh Nakrani and Ronak Patel coming in for Simon Sessazi and Stephen Wabwose.
Since joining the Cricket Cranes for the Africa B T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Rwanda, Nakran and Patel have added steel to the batting and they will be key players for Roger Mukasa in Oman.
Mukasa will lead the side in his second major ICC tournament and his heroics in Malaysia might be needed in Oman. He will be assisted as usual by Brian Masaba with the technical bench led by Steve Tikolo and his assistant Jackson Ogwang.
The Cricket Cranes will be jetting out of Uganda on Nov 4th and will open their campaign against Denmark on November 9.
