As the Unimoni National T20 Cup winds up this weekend, the remaining four teams have chosen to beef up their teams with pros from Zimbabwe, India and Kenya.

Defending champions Challengers have broken the bank to ensure they defend their crown with the addition of two pros from Zimbabwe; Timycen Maruma and Shingi Masakadza plus a former player of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL Malik Abdulahad who was the stand out in their nine wicket win over Kutchi Tigers in the quarterfinals. These three already join a star studded line up that includes national team players Hamu Kayondo, Arthur Kyobe, Shahzad Kamal and David Wabwire.

KICC has decided to trust its process and stick to its own players who have managed to get them this far but you feel the addition made by Challengers will make the difference in this game.

Challengers are outright favorites for this semifinal clash and should be able to make the finals.

The other semifinal which will be live on YouTube between Division 1 league champions Aziz Damani and Ceylon Lions will be played at the University oval in Kyambogo.

The T20 crown is the only one that is still eluding the rich Aziz Damani and they will be hungry for success. The squad is very rich in talent with close to eight national team players in the likes of Cricket Cranes vice captain Brian Masaba, Kenneth Waiswa, Riazat Shah, Bilal Hassun, Emmanuel Isaneez, Henry Ssenyondo and Charles Waiswa.

Their rivals Ceylon Lions are no push overs and have sourced the services of Kenyan International Alex Obanda who will join the explosive Simon Ssesazi, the singh brothers Varinder and Narinder, and team captain Jonathan Ssebanja. They showed their class last weekend when they put Jinja SSS to the sword scoring a record 267 in 20 overs.

This is a very close semifinal with very little to separate both teams in the short format. The big boys of Aziz Damani might have enough to edge the contest but can’t rule out a surprise from Ceylon Lions.

The final of the T20 Cup will be held in afternoon at the University Oval in Kyambogo.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
