Uganda’s second division football league, the FUFA Big League returns with match day 10 at the very start of the year on Thursday, 3rd January 2019 with eight matches.

The mother of all battles will be that Elgon group game as former Uganda Premier League side Entebbe Football Club takes on high flying Wakiso Giants at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Currently coached by the Big league specialist coach, Allan Kabonge, ironically, Entebbe has been inconsistent this term with just a single win in 9 matches.

Against Ibrahim Kirya Wakiso Giants, a star studded side, it will remain a close contest likely to separated by the slightest details of tactics and individual brilliance of players on the evening.

Like Wakiso Giants, Entebbe FC also has players who have tested the top flight division waters as forwards Bruuno Sserunkuma, Kenneth Tumusiime, Andrew Ssekayombya, Sharif Muhammed Ochaya, defenders Sande Mukiibi, Brian Nsubuga and goalkeeper Hussein Mulawa, among others.

A couple of young players as Rashid ‘Kudra’ Matovu, currently with two goals scored against JMC Hippos and Kataka have also come up the ranks and will be expected to be among the top performers on the day.

Entebbe trained at the all green Works Play ground on Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for the game.

It will not be a matter of life or death. It is an ordinary match that we have prepared for well like the rest of the games we have played. We shall approach the game very cautiously because we need maximum points. We have also done some research on the opponent.

The purple Sharks’ inspirational captain Moses Ali Feni, utility player Hassan Wasswa Dazo,  Ivan Kiweewa, Ayub Kisaliita, Duff Abdul Karim KasuleLuboobi, Richard ‘Gazza’ Kigozi, Muwadda Kateregga, Ashraf Ziraba, Clinton Kamugisha, Junior Ainamani as well as Entebbe groomed goalkeepers Cleo Ssetubba and Mansoor Mutumba will be Kirya’s tested guns for the match.

Incidentally, Mutumba was one of the goalkeepers at Masavu FC last season as the club got relegated to the second tier.

Wakiso Giants currently leads the Elgon group with 16 points fetched in 8 matches, a difference of 8 points that separate them from Entebbe Football Club, formerly Masavu F.C.

In the other Elgon Group matches, newly promoted Light S.S plays host to Steven Bogere’s UPDF at the Amuria High School play ground.

Other newcomers in the Big league, Nebbi Central face wounded Kyetume in the West Nile district of Nebbi.

Alex Isabirye’s Kyetume fell 2-1 at home to visiting Doves All Stars in their immediate past match.

Meanwhile, Doves All Stars who are second on the log, a point behind Wakiso Giants hosts Bukedea Town Council at the Green Light Stadium in Arua.

Under the Rwenzori Group, Edward Golola’s coached Kitara Football Club face Ntinda United at the Kigaya play-ground in Hoima, Bumate United face Kira United at Christ High School play-ground in Bundibungyo.

Rwenzori leaders Kiboga Young, a side coached by Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza entertains Mark Twinamatisko’s Dove at the Bamusussuta SS Play-ground, Kiboga as second placed Proline visit Kansai Plascon at the Bishops S.S play-ground in Mukono.

Promotion:

Three clubs shall be promoted to the Uganda Premier League at the end of the season in May 2019.

The top club per group qualifies directly whilst the third one is determined via a promotional play off.
