El Hadji Diouf during his time at Liverpool
Former Liverpool and Senegalese footballer El Hadji Diouf will not travel to Uganda as planned because of travel complications

The much awaited visit of retired Senegalese footballer El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf to Uganda will not happen, at least for now.

This follows the failure of the two time African footballer of the year to make the trip to Uganda because of travel complications.

According to a statement from El Hadji Diouf, the former Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers forward failed to travel from Dakar, the Senegalese capital city.

I am sorry that I have not been able to travel to Uganda on time. I apologise to the Ugandan community, my fans, Eddie Kenzo and the president of the Uganda Football Association. I will make it happen in future

The development also happened on the day the flights at Entebbe International Airport were also affected after an Ethiopian Airlines vessel skidded off the lake side runway during landing in Entebbe.

El Hadji Diouf was scheduled to plan in a charity match at the Star Times Stadium Lugogo on Friday morning alongside musician Edirisa ‘Eddie Kenzo’ Musuuza and a couple of current Uganda Cranes and retired players against FUFA President’s XI.

He has been invited by Kenzo in collaboration with Wakiso Giants Football Club, a second tier side in Uganda.

The retired footballer, 38, had also been scheduled to be a special guest for Kenzo during the celebration of his 10 years in music at Serena Hotel in Kampala on Friday night.

Organisers have also since issued a public apology.
