Uganda National Volleyball League champions, Nkumba University is buoyant ahead of their planned tour in Udine, Northeast of Italy.

Nkumba University Volleyball team landed an invitation to take part in the week-long tour set to volley off on 16th to 22nd February 2019 in Italy.

The 13 man delegation of 8 players and five officials was officially flagged off on Thursday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Kampala.

Assistant general secretary for the National Council of Sports, David Ssemakula Katende lauded the evolution of Nkumba University ladies volleyball club and their efforts of ascending aloft the volleyball fronts on the Ugandan scene.

Flanked by the president of the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), Hadijah Namanda, Katende wished the players on board fruitful deliberations ahead of their trip, as a lee-way to preparing for future national and continental engagements.

I wish to thank the management of Nkumba University ladies volleyball club for the great efforts to prepare the team. Use this opportunity as a net-working chain as well as a plat form to prepare for the upcoming national and continental games.

They are expected to depart on Friday for Italy ahead of their first international match against Italian giants Selezione Est Volley pav natisonia at the San Giovanni near Udine city.

Team skipper Emilly Kansiime is confident that the tour will be of great significance to the team and each of the traveling individuals on the team.

This is a great platform to showcase our skills and talents. The tour will help each of us with the perfect test ahead of future duels.

We are prepared mentally and physically. Everyone is fit because we have been training well.

We are very grateful that we shall be traveling to Italy. The games that we shall play will be of great importance to add to the experience we have given the fact that we shall be going to the represent the country on the continent.

This is a great opportunity for a Ugandan club to be invited for such a tour in Italy. It will open doors to other offers and provide the players with the experience of playing in the best facilities.

The group departs the country on Friday.

For starters, Nkumba University entered into a five year long partnership with sports management firm Hermes Sports Limited last September.

The institution also penned a memorandum of understanding with Italian Series A Club CDA Volley Talmassons and Italian-based NGO ‘Helping Kisenyi School’.
