National Hockey League

Men

  • Weatherhead 5-0 Historicals
  • Makerere 2-2 Simba
  • Kampala Hockey Club 1-1 Wananchi

Women

  • DCU 2-3 Rhino

For the first time this season, defending champions and current league leaders Wananchi failed to collect maximum points.

Wananchi were held to a one-all draw by Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) on Saturday to put a halt to their perfect start to the season.

They had won all the opening four games prior to the stalemate against KHC.

Benjamin Mkapa gave Kampala Hockey Club the lead just four minutes into the game but the lead was short-lived with Wananchi levelling matters five minutes later through Innocent Mbabali.

Despite the result, Wananchi remained top of the log on 13 points in five games while KHC is third on ten points.

Weatherhead now remain the only team with a perfect record having won all the four games they have played.

Over the weekend, they eased past Historicals 5-0 to move to second place on 12 points. Timothy Ntumba scored a brace while Alfred Agaba, Ashraf Tumwesigye and Toffer Kamanywa added a goal each for Weatherhead.

They also have the best defence in the league with only two goals conceded so far.

The other game played between Makerere and Simba ended in a two-all draw. Edwin Asaba and Richard Musimenta scored for Makerere while Simba got the goals through Muhammad Ali and Maxwell Mugisha.

In the only women’s game played, Rhino stunned Deliverance Church Uganda (DCU) winning 3-2 to condemn them to their first loss.

Susan Khaiza gave Rhino the lead before Veronica Atima doubled it in the 26the minute. A brace from Lucky Akello drew the game level but Tracy Nalubega scored the eventual winning goal in the final period.
