AFCON U-17 (Group A):
Tanzania 4-5 Nigeria
Angola 1-0 Uganda
Hosts Tanzania kicked off the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations tourney on a sour note, losing to West Africans Nigeria 5-4 in a group A opener at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Sunday.
Nigeria’s Wisdom Onyedikachi Ubani scored a brace.
Alfred Olatomi Olaniyan, Akinkunmi Ayobami Amoo and Ibraheem Olalekan Jabaar netted the goals for the West Africans.
Edmund John Godfrey scored twice for Tanzania, with the other two goals coming from Pius John Kelvin and Suleman Swaibu’s own goal.
Olatomi gave Nigeria the lead on 21 minutes.
The lead was short lived with Edmund’s first 60 seconds later.

Onyedikachi doubled Nigeria’s lead after 30 minute and Amoo stretched it to 3-1 heading to the half time break.
Upon restart of play, Kelvin scored seven minutes into the closing stanza.
The hosts made the game all square with a penalty before Edmund scored another goal through a penalty to take the lead 4-3.
Ubani got his brace in the 72nd minute and Jabaar grabbed the winning goal.
Nigeria is now top of group A, just points like Angola who beat Uganda 1-0 in the second game.
