AFCON U-17 (Group A):
- Uganda 1-1 Nigeria
- Tanzania 2-4 Angola
Uganda National U-17 team (The Cubs) painfully bowed out of the AFCON U-17 tournament, drawing one all with West Africans Nigeria at the Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi on Easter eve.
John Kokas Alou gave Uganda the lead on 69 minutes moments after he had replaced the injured Andrew Kawooya.
Alou needed just 60 seconds to make a statement, heading home a curling corner from left back Ibrahim Juma.
The joy was short lived as Nigeria equalized through Ibraheem Jabaar 16 minutes to full time.
Jabaar perfectly controlled a well chipped through ball over the Ugandan defenders Juma, Samson Kasozi and captain Gavin Kizito to finish calmly into past goalkeeper Jack Komakech who had been impressive in between the goal posts.
Meanwhile, Angola condemned hosts Tanzania 4-2 at the National Stadium in Dar es salaam in the other group A game played concurrently.
Nigeria qualifies as group A leaders with seven points. Angola finishes with six and Uganda on four.
Hosts Tanzania have not won any game in the tournament as finish bottom placed.
Nigeria and Angola join Cameroon who had earlier booked their berth to the 2019 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Uganda U-17 XI:
