Aziz Damani Ladies lift the T20 trophy

Aziz Damani ladies were able to defend their T20 crown after defeating Soroti Challengers by 9 wickets.

Aziz Damani, first-time winners from last season, were able to defend their crown after seeing off another Soroti franchise in the final.

Last year they defeated Olila Cricket Club in an interesting final to win their first local title and even without Gertrude Candiru, Mary Nalule and Saidat Kemigisha. The additions of Rita Musamali and Stephanie Nampiina from Jinja SSS made them favourites to defend their title.

They had a small matter of KICC to deal with in the semifinals in the morning but the latter was never a threat with Damani winning comfortably by 10 wickets.

In the other semifinal, the Soroti sides faced off in a derby with newcomers Soroti Challengers edging their seniors Olila Cricket Club by 4 wickets.

In the afternoon final, however, the might of Damani was too much for Soroti Challengers defeating them by 9 wickets. Soroti Challengers batted first putting on 104/6 in their 20 overs Lady Cricket Cranes captain Kevin Awino (34) the only stand out with the bat.

Aziz Damani was untroubled in the chase with Kenya ladies captain Margaret Banja leading the way with a fluent 64 and she was the only wicket to fall as Rita Musamali (27) and Sarah Bhakita (7) to closed out the win.

The nine-wicket victory ensured Aziz Damani won the T20 crown for the second year in a row and the first a team in ladies cricket has won it back to back.

Coach Yusuf Nanga was overjoyed by the feat and mentioned that being a champion is easy but staying a champion is harder so they still have a lot of work to do.
