Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has released the provisional teams for the 2019 COSAFA and AFCON tournaments.

On the COSAFA team is midfielder Mbarara City exciting midfielder Ivan Eyam, Proline’s teenager Bright Anukani, Express intelligent defender John Revita, Kirinya-Jinja S.S experienced defender Isaac Isinde, striker Daniel Sserunkuma and others.

Yeovil Town towering defender Bevis Mugabi returns to the team set up given his rich vein of form in the season despite his club’s relegation.

Mugabi is among the names considered for the preliminary squad of AFCON 2019 in Egypt.

The other bouncing back player is Egypt based striker Daniel Isiagi.

There are two locally based goalkeepers on the AFCON bound team – James Alitho (URA) and Charles Lukwago of newly crowned KCCA.

Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Godfrey Walusimbi, two unattached players since January 2019 are also the provisional AFCON squad.

Programe:

The AFCON Preliminary Squad will camp at Kabira Country Club for residential training starting Monday 13th May 2019.

From this squad, the head coach will select some players for the 26 man Squad for further training in the United Arab Emirates to join the foreign-based players from which he will announce the final 23 man squad to feature in the Total AFCON Finals in Egypt.

The Squad for COSAFA Tournament will hold non-residential training that starts on Wednesday 15th May 2019 at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

The COSAFA tournament will be played from 25th May-8th June 2019.

However, some players from the initial preliminary AFCON Squad will be considered for COSAFA tournament if they don’t travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

  1. You are throwing away the only opportunity (Cosafa) to get fitness and match practice to the non active first team players,especially those two players. Their inactivity can be a big liability as in 2-1 loss in Madagascar and 1-0 loss(red card) to Senegal in Morocco.Both matches under Micho.
