Ghana Black Stars will face South Africa Bafana Bafana in a high profile international friendly match prior to the kick off for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament due in Egypt.

This international build up match will take place in Dubai in June.

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter confirmed the development during a press conference.

Yes we will try and play a game in Dubai. We are just waiting for the paper works between these two associations but we’ve already agreed on a game and I think it will be an interesting one for both nations. Ghana is a West African country and we’ll be playing against Cote D’Ivoire so Ghana is a very good sparring partner for us and I know they also need a good sparring partner for their campaign

Winners of the AFCON trophy in 1996, South Africa were drawn alongside Cote D’Ivoire, Morocco and Namibia in group D.

Ghana is in group F, another tricky pool that has the reigning champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.

For 37 years, Ghana Black Stars has not won the AFCON championship since their last triumph in 1982.

Ghana was also successful in 1963, 1965 and 1978.

In 1978, Ghana beat Uganda Cranes 2-0 in an interesting finale played in Kumasi.

The Black Stars are reported to begin non-residential camping on 27th May, 2019, ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
