Not so many people expected Makerere University to reach this far. Not even themselves could have dreamt of achieving the success but a fairytale run in the Women’s Cup saw them going all the way for the top prize.
For a team that struggled to fend off relegation in the league, finishing just above the drop zone in Elizabeth group, their performance was impressive in the knockout phase.
Under Fred Ndawula, a referee who turned into a coach, there has been a significant improvement in the team and performance.
The addition of players like Amina Nababi from Kawempe and Catherine Nagaddya from Katuuso Community has given the team the drive going forward.
On the other hand, Lady Doves who edged closer to claiming a double eventually end the campaign trophy-less after losing to UCU Lady Cardinals and Makerere University in the league and Cup finals respectively.
Makerere University become the third team to win the FUFA Women’s Cup joining inaugural winners Olila High School who won it in 2017 and UCU Lady Cardinals that won it last year.
