Uganda won two medals; one gold and bronze during the half marathon in the first ever Africa beach games in Sal, Cape Verde.

Robert Chemonges won gold in the men event as Priscilla Chelengat clinched bronze.

Chemonges clocked 1:04:48 ahead of Kenya’s Charles Mneria who had a time of 1:05:24. Djibouti’s Bouch Moumin finished in third place.

During the women’s half Marathon, Algerian Riham Senani earned gold after covering the distance in a time of 1:18:20 ahead of Namibia’s Lakina Hastope.

Uganda’s Chelangat was third and settled for bronze after a timing of 1:20:25.

Chemonges and Chelengat were Uganda’s only athletes fielded.

Overall, Uganda finished fifth on the medal table behind Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Cape Verde.

Algeria fielded 64 athletes, Cape Verde with 76 and Kenya 40.

The Africa beach Games included the 3×3 Basketball, Beach Handball, Beach Rowing Sprints, free-style juggling, Beach Soccer, Beach Tennis and Beach Volleyball.

Uganda beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes pulled out at the 11th hour while the free styler Andy Skillz did not travel as well.
