  • Mbarara City 2-0 URA

Mbarara City Football Club joined Vipers to the semifinals of the Fufa Super 8 tournament.

This followed a 2-0 victory against URA Football Club at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara on Friday.

Forwards Brian Ahebwa and Paul Mucureezi scored in the second for the Ankole Lions to give newly appointed coach Brian Ssenyondo a great start to his job since replacing Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.

Ahebwa scored the opener in the 68th minute before Mucureezi capped the icing on the cake with a last-minute gasp winner, tapping home a Swalik Ssegujja laid ball.

URA missed several key players who are with the Uganda Cranes preparing for CHAN 2020 qualifier against Somalia on Saturday.

Goalkeeper James Alitho, Ashraf Mandela, Shafic Kagimu and Paul Mbowa are some of the players who missed the game for the tax collectors.

Defender Ronald Otti was named man of the match earning Shs 200,000 as a reward for the outstanding individual display.

This was the second game of the pre-season tourney following Vipers’ slim 1-0 victory over Proline at Lugogo on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Tooro United face Onduparaka away in Arua on Sunday in the last quarterfinal contest.

On Tuesday next week, defending champions KCCA Football Club takes on Wakiso Giants at the Wakisha playground in the last quarterfinal match.
