- Heathens 34-13 Mongers
Heathens RFC’s impressive start to the 2019-20 Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League continued with a resounding 34-13 win over Mongers RFC at Kyadondo on Saturday.
Tries from Kenneth Okong, Michael Wokorach (2), Alex Mubiru, and Gerald Ssewankambo were enough to earn defending champions a bonus-point win and maintained their place at the top after four matches.
Despite losing Elijah Ssewaga early in the game, Mongers remained strong in the pack and Heathens had to show their versatility, going to their backline, to break down the visitors.
And was winger Kenneth Okong who got Heathens running when he grounded at the corner after the champions threaded a number of passes from a line-out and halfback Aaron Ofoyrwoth squeezed in the extras for a 07-00 lead.
Adrian Wasswa cut the deficit with a penalty but Heathens called their pack into action and from a driving maul, hooker Alex Mubiru grounded. Ofoyrwoth added the twos for a 14-03 lead.
Wasswa slotted in another penalty for Mongers before skipper Michael Wokorach scored Heathens third try on the final play of the half but Ofoyrwoth kick for extra points went wide.
It’s was Mongers that started the second half on the front foot putting Heathens under pressure with strong carries from Joaquim Chisano, Ronald Adigas, Joseph Tamale and Andrew Olwenyi.
The visitors put together several phases with Heathens holding their line but Don Wambete found some space to break through and ground near the posts with Wasswa converting to bring Mongers within 13-19.
Heathens went into attack and trapped Mongers into the offside. Joseph Oyet split the post for a 22-13 lead.
Gerald Ssewamkambo and Wokorach sealed maximum points for Heathens.
