The curtains came down on the Africa Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship in Cape Coast, Ghana with Uganda’s Renee Nassozi Kiggundu winning Silver in the Under 15 Category.

The fourteen-year-old who had earlier in the week lost to Egypt’s Yassmin Ali in the Under 17 category, qualified for the quarterfinals of the U15 after winning all her matches in the first round.

In the quarterfinals, she blitzed passed Ghana’s Abdulkarim Ninawava 15-0 before facing Egypt’s Eldoksh Renad in the finals.  

Nassozi who turns out for Millfield Senior School Fencing Club in the United Kingdom was competing at the international level for the first time and is grateful for the opportunity.

“I want to thank my parents, family, the Uganda Fencing Association especially Carolynne Adongo and all my fans in Uganda for the support. I also want to thank my coaches from Millfield.

“I have generally learnt more and it was a great opportunity for me to be at this championship,” said Nassozi.

Nassozi says she is now looking forward to participating in the World Cadet and Junior Championships in Salt Lake City, US in April.
