MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Wim Vanhelleputte has revealed that 2020 edition of MTN Marathon will be skipped due to COVID-19.
This follows the possible challenges of managing the huge number of crowds that often turn up for the event every single year.
According to Vanhelleputte, it could be “challenging to follow the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) as stipulated by the Ministry of Health to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
“For the MTN Marathon, it could be challenging to follow the SOPs. Unfortunately, we will skip it for 2020,” he told media at Joshua Cheptegei’s reward ceremony at Mbale Resort.
The event draws entries from all over eastern Africa has been the springboard of numerous talents like Olympic and world champion Stephen Kiprotich and Dorcus Inzikuru.
