• Rhinos 00-51 Kobs

Pius Ogena was the star of the show at Kings Park in Bweyogerere as Kobs beat Rhinos 51-0 in the one-sided game. The eighth man of the day scored four tries, three of which came in the first half.

Playing competitive rugby for the first time in nearly a year, the players on both sides were jittery to start but improved as the game progressed. But it was Ogena who got into his groove quickly with strong carries that kept Kobs camped in Rhinos territory.

The first was a well-worked move to the blindside started by full-back Josiah Sempeke who threaded a pass to James Ijongat and the flyhalf went out to inside centre Edgar Sseruwagi with Ogena at the end of it to run through for the opening try of the game. Sempeke’s conversion was way short.

Fifteen minutes later, Ogena forced his way over the line after several phases and Ijongat added extras for a 12-00 lead.

The third try was a show of Kobs strength in the forward line. Rhinos were penalized for offside near the five-meter line and Brian Asaba called for a scrum. Rhinos collapsed the scrum and this time, Ijongat kicked for touch and from the line out, Kobs drove Rhinos over and Ogena grounded. Ijongat’s conversion was wide and Kobs led 17-00 at the break.

On return from recess, debutant James Odong, and Brian Ochan crossed the chalk with Ijongat converting both before Karim Arinaitwe, Brian Asaba and makeshift centre Daudi Semwani joined the try party that was sealed by Ogena.
