Dinesh Nakrani and Ronak Patel have been able to join the Cricket Cranes training squad as the team prepares for their upcoming tour to Namibia.
The duo has missed their teammates mostly due to Covid travel restrictions and has been away since the success in Oman in 2019.
The pair was very destructive in Oman in 2019 when Uganda won all its five round-robin games to top the Challenge League B table.
On his debut for Uganda at a major tournament, top-order batsman Ronak Patel struggled in Malaysia in 2018 but in Oman, he was the second-highest run-scorer for Uganda with a man of match knock of 86 in a famous win against neighbours Kenya. His experience is invaluable for the developing side and coach Laurence Mahatlane must be glad he is able to join the squad.
All-rounder Dinesh Nakrani was able to settle in fast and his contributions with bat and ball have invaluable for the team. With the team lacking in the seam bowling department, he will have to take some burden with the ball and his power-hitting has added a lot of steel to what in the past has been a weak middle order.
Both players were part of the 12 awarded central contracts and they should be part of the 14 man team to Namibia.
The final squad to Namibia should be announced soon as the players are put through their final paces before getting into a bubble.
