  • Nile Stout Rugby Premier League – Matchday Two
  • Result: Jinja Hippos 38-08 Impis RFC

Jinja Hippos got off to a flying start in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League by beating Impis 38-08 at the Dam Waters Rugby Club in Jinja.

It only took the Hippos nine minutes to score their first try through new signing Eliphaz Emong.

Nine minutes later, flyhalf John Echeru touched down to double the lead. Both tries were converted by captain Maxwell Ebonga for a Hippos 14-00 lead at the half hour mark.

Impis’ first points of the match were off Stallone Arinaitwe’s boot but Hippos quickly responded through Ebonga to assume a 19-03 lead at the break.

In the second half, it was one-way traffic as the hosts ran in three tries. Ebonga touched down first within seven minutes for the bonus point before debutant Edrine Lemeriga increased the tally seven minutes later.

Impis were handed a lifeline that they did not utilise when Fahad Maido got sent to the bin midway through the second half. Instead, Ebonga was able to complete his hat trick of tries.

The visitors were not to go away without a fight and in the last minute of regulation time, Muhumuza Kennedy scored the consolation try to make it a 38-08 score.

Hippos captain Ebonga expressed disappointment saying that they expected to score more points in the game. He said that they hope to improve their performance in the next match.

Their next match will be at the same venue against Rhinos while Impis will visit Pirates at Kings Park.
