  • Result: Warriors 09-55 Kobs

Kobs have retained the Mileke Shield after a dominant performance against Warriors at Legends Rugby Grounds.

Kobs ran in nine unanswered tries during the game to win the second Mileke Shield match held in memory of Patrick Mileke Aredo.

The late Papa Aredo was not only the father of the three Aredo brothers who currently play for the two clubs, but also a great supporter of Ugandan rugby.

Kobs’ Pius Ogena opened the scoring with a converted try in under 10 minutes. Warriors then responded with two Richard Kinyai penalties to make it 07-06.

But this would be their last sniff at the scoreboard in the first half as Kobs scored four tries through Joseph Aredo, Pius Ogena, Justin Kimono and James Odongo.

After the break, Kobs still had thirst for more points on the board. Brian Ochan joined the try-scoring party before Brian Asaba, Collins Kimbowa, and Justin Kimono added their names to the list.

Warriors’ only points in the second half, as was in the first, were off Kinyai’s boot as the side could not breach their opponents’ defense.

The game therefore ended 55-09 courtesy of a dominant show by Kobs. Kobs have thus scored a half-century of points in their first two games this season and are currently top of the log. They also remain the only team yet to concede a try.

Next weekend, Kobs host Buffaloes at Legends while Rhinos travel to Dam Waters for a tie against the Hippos.
