In our new series, “Five Questions with”, Kawowo Sports challenges Uganda’s famous sports stars to share little-known aspects of their lives.

Part four has Kawowo Sports chatting with Uganda Cranes and Ittihad Alexandria striker Emmanuel Okwi.

Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a great athlete?

What makes me a great athlete is focus, persistence, passion and love for what I do.

Which sport would you play if you were not playing Football and why?

Lawn Tennis because aside from football, I have always had a passion for it and I think I would have done well should I have followed a different path.

Is there a coach or athlete that you look up to as a role model and why?

Thierry Henry is my role model. I grew up admiring him and always wanted to play like him. My first shirt number at Sports Club Villa was 14 because of the way he made it his own while at Arsenal FC.

Rank the top five priorities currently in your life.

  1. God
  2. Family
  3. Work
  4. Friends
  5. Positive energy

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gained from your career?

To not always read too much into the news regardless of whether I am doing so well or bad. Because the media will always praise you when you are on top and drown you when things ain’t going well for you. I consider this advice from the former Uganda Cranes coach, Bobby Williamson, as one of the best I got.

  1. I like the comment of Emmanuel Okwi because he put God first on his five priorities.
