Five days to arguably Uganda’s biggest game in the 2021 Afcon qualifiers, the fans were treated to shocking news of the suspension of midfield gem Khalid Aucho.
The midfielder who is suspended for the Burkinabe encounter on March 24 due to his red card in defeat to South Sudan last year would be available for selection against Malawi on March 29.
The statement released by Fufa indicates that Aucho was dismissed for failure to adhere to the National team Code of Conduct and Fufa Circular date March 4, 2021.
“Khalid Aucho has been dismissed from Uganda Cranes Camp for failure to adhere to the National team Code of Conduct and FUFA Circular dated 4th March 2021…..,” read part of the statement.
Aucho refused to board the official means of transport organised to pick him from Entebbe International Airport to the team camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel-Kisasi and has not even reported to camp since his arrival in the country.Fufa statement on dismissal of Aucho
Kawowo Sports has established that the circular dated March 4 was shared to all the players summoned for the two games and guided them that whoever arrives in the country when the camp has started must travel straight and join the team by means organised by Fufa.
The purpose for this according to Fufa was to avoid contact with people whose COVID19 status is unknown yet the players are believed to be safe since on all travels from where they ply their trade, they must have a covid19 negative certificate.
But since Aucho knew he was ineligible to feature against Burkina Faso, he thought this circular and its content are bound to be followed by those players available.
He thus sought to visit his family first before joining his teammates a couple of days later with reports indicating he had planned to go to camp on Sunday.
The authorities at Mengo didn’t listen to any of this insisting that meeting other people going straight to camp could be risky not only to him but other members of the camp prior to other mandatory tests before the game against the Stallions.
A lot has since been said by people on social media alleging he was dismissed simply because of national political issues but his agency has since admitted the player.
“We refute all reports and allegations that link midfield maestro Aucho Khalid’s suspension from Uganda Cranes camp to politics…” read part of the statement released on social media by the Somewhere in Africa Sports Agency.
We acknowledge the fact that our client may not have fully abide to all guidelines rendered to him by Fufa hence resulting to his exclusion from the squad ahead of the Burkina Faso and Malawi encounters.Aucho’s agency admits the player could have error-ed
It remains to be seen how this will end but unconfirmed reports indicate so far indicate that the player is remorseful of his actions and ready to apologize.
