Confederation of African Football (CAF) has today dismissed the National Team of Chad from the 2021 qualifiers of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The continental football governing body cites government intervention into the running of Federation of Chad Football Associations (FTFA) as the reason for taking the decision to disqualify their team.

“Following the suspension of the CHAD Football Federation by the Chadian Ministry of Youth and Sports, CAF has decided to disqualify the National Team of CHAN from the qualifiers of Africa Cup of Nations 2021,” reads the statement from CAF.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports released a document indicating that the powers of the Federation of Chad Football Associations (FTFA) were withdrawn on 10 March.

“By the definitive withdrawal of this delegation of powers, it is formally forbidden for the (FTFA) to participate in the various international meetings and to organise or participate in any other national or international competition or event on behalf of Chad,” the ministry’s statement explained.

Chad were supposed to face Namibia and Mali in the final qualifying games for next year’s AFCON in Cameroon.

At the time of the decision, Chad were bottom of group A, with Mali (top with 10 points) already qualified while Guinea (8) and Namibia (3) are battling for the final slot.
