Daniel Kayongo, Plascon Marketing Coordinator

Kansai Plascon announced a 132 million shilling cash sponsorship of Uganda Cup on Friday, March 26 at their office in Industrial Area, Kampala.

The announcement was the second for the company having partnered with Vipers Sports Club earlier at the start of the Month.

Daniel Kayongo, the Marketing Coordinator of Kansai Plascon, says the sponsorship of the country’s biggest football competition is aligned to the company’s objectives of promoting talent.

“As a business we look beyond just the development of one football club but rather sport as a whole in Uganda and part of that involves the growth of sports at the grassroots level.

“The Stanbic Uganda Cup is an opportunity for us to put an effort towards that because of the number of participating clubs from across the country which gives an opportunity to over 700 players to develop their talent and grow their opportunities.

“As Plascon, we feel this is a big objective and we are quite excited to be a part of that journey,” he said.

Kayongo added that the value of the sponsorship could be enhanced depending on the outcome of the initial two years.

“The goal of all of this is to be able to understand how the tournament works. It’s what I would call a trial period for two seasons to see if it’s well aligned with our objectives as a company, is it progressive? If it is, then we will renew the contract with a possibly bigger value after he end of the two years.”

The 2021 edition of the Uganda Cup kicks off on Monday, April 4 with only 32 clubs from the top two divisions, the Uganda Premier League and Fufa Big League, involved. Each tie will be played on home and away basis, except the final.

Express FC are the record winners of the competition whose winner represents Uganda at the Caf Confederation Cup.
