• Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League – Matchday Four
  • Result: Buffaloes 06-03 Hippos

Buffaloes Rugby Club outmuscled Jinja Hippos, 06-03, at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds to return to winning ways after two losses on the bounce.

Jinja Hippos, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the season in their first trip away from home.

On an afternoon where neither of the teams could breach the other’s defense to score a try, it was the kickers whose accuracy mattered most. Amidst numerous failed attempts from both teams to split the uprights, it is the Buffaloes who came out on top of the tight contest.

Buffaloes scored two penalties through their halfbacks Liam Walker and Kevin Makmot while Hippos were only successful once through Maxwell Ebonga.

The visitors committed repeated minor infringements with ball in hand which affected their forward momentum. The high knock on and forward pass count turned over possession to the visitors whose strength is the scrummage.

Buffaloes denied the lethal Hippos back three opportunities to express themselves with their unpredictable kicking patterns throughout the match. Hippos’ steady press on defense was up to the task in keeping the Buffaloes out of their red zone.

Buffaloes thus go into the league’s bye-week with an inspiring win while Hippos won’t have much time to lick their wounds. Their next match is the game-in-hand against Warriors that is scheduled for Friday, April 2 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.
