Monday, 29th March 2021: Malawi Flames Vs Uganda Cranes

Uganda Cranes head coach Abdallah Mubiru branded the upcoming AFCON 2021 group B qualifier away to Malawi as a “do-or-die” affair.
Mubiru spoke in the aftermath of Uganda’s goalless home draw with West Africans Burkina Faso at the St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
The former Uganda Cranes holding midfielder acknowledged the fact that they knew the qualification would be sealed away in Malawi.
“We give thanks to Almighty Lord for whatever we achieved from the game at home. We had a game where I feel we were unlucky. The players put up a good fight. We tried our best in the game against Burkina Faso (0-0). We knew that even before the game, it would all end in Malawi.” Mubiru disclosed.
Famous drawing board:
Mubiru also hinted on planning afresh for the final game in this qualification campaign.
“We are going back to the drawing board to plan for the game away against Malawi. We have to select a better team to face Malawi.” He added.
Uganda is already in Malawi where they traveled aboard a chartered flight from Entebbe International Airport.
The team of 23 players conducted the first and only training session at the Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre on Sunday morning.
With 9 points off 5 matches, Burkina Faso has already qualified for the 2021 AFCON finals that will be staged in Cameroon come January 20212.
The West Africans, christened as “The Stallions” achieved the feat even with a game to play against South Sudan in Ouagadougou.
South Sudan bowed out after losing 1-0 to Malawi in Khartoum city as the Flames made 7 points.
The match in Malawi will be officiated by FIFA Referees from Mozambique.
