Jinja Hippos Rugby Club head coach Robert Seguya believes his team are in the right process towards meeting their season targets. He is optimistic that they will even get better as they work on improving their set pieces.

“I don’t look at the outcome, I look at the process. We are in the right process and the chains are working. I know we will get better,” Seguya said.

Speaking to Kawowo Sports after the 20-10 win against Warriors, Seguya was delighted to steer Hippos back to winning ways. He had to inspire his charges to stick to the structure which was superior to the opponents’ on the day, and it yielded positive results.

Jinja Hippos claimed this win in a tense match through tries from Jacob Ochen and Tawfik Bagalana. This was after spending the past week of training on fixing the shortcomings in the line against Buffaloes.

“I realised one thing (in the game) against Buffaloes that our depth was bad and the support was a little bit flatter. That’s all we worked on… hands and depth in attack,” Seguya revealed.

Seguya has been consistent in his squad selection this season, sticking with the starting XV and rotating his substitutes. Where he has made changes, it has been forced by injuries like in the case of Meddy Mapesa and Denis Etwau.

He says that he is anticipating a tough run of fixtures in this month, hence he will be focusing on building squad depth for each of the games.

“We have the biggest games in the line in the coming weeks. I’m looking at making sure that I have enough depth so that we can play the games one at a time”

Jinja Hippos will be facing Rams (H), Kobs (H) and Heathens (H) in their next three matches.
