Uganda People’s Defence Force Football Club (UPDF FC) progressed to the round of 16 of this year’s Uganda Cup after overcoming Arua Hill SC on Sunday in Bombo.

The Army side secured a 1-0 win at the Military Barracks Ground that saw them advance on away goals rule.

The first leg at Barifa Stadium had ended in a 3-2 win for Arua Hill SC and thus UPDF FC had to win the return leg to stand any chance.

A perfect start saw Alex ‘Benzema’ fire the Army side into an early lead, scoring as early as the third minute.

The goal eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game with UPDF FC holding on to earn a hard fought win.

It should be noted that the gangly forward had also scored in the first leg at Barifa Stadium last week.

Coming into this game, Kefa Kisala made just one change from the team that lost in the first leg with debutant Bernard Muwanga replacing skipper Dennis Ssekitoleko.

On the other hand, Hussein Mbalangu made as many as seven changes from the team that started in the first leg.

Richard Anyama started ahead of Franco Oringa in goal while Aggrey Atandu, Emmanuel Mutebi, Gadaffi Gadinho, Alfred Leku, Rashid Kawawa and Samari Ajobe were all relegated to the bench.

UPDF FC join SC Villa, Mbale Heroes FC and Soltilo Bright Stars FC as the other teams that progressed to the round of 16 on Sunday.
