Derrick Kakooza(Football),Husina Kobugabe (Badminton) and Lukiya Nayiga (Pool) have on Monday been awarded as the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Sports personalities for the last three months.
In the first physical meeting for the sports scribes since the outbreak of COVID-19, the aforementioned trio were voted the best athletes for January to March.
21-year old Nayiga who was named the best for the month of January defied odds to emerge Champion at the Esther Lungu Pool Championship in Malawi.

Despite travelling by road to Malawi, only arriving on the eve of the start of the tournament and also had to fight a bout of Malaria, Nayiga went ahead to win, including defeating Africa’s top seed Nicola Rosseau from South Africa.
Kobugabe, a student at Ndejje University was unanimously voted the USPA Sports Personality for the month of February beating Joshua Cheptegei who successfully defended the 5km Monaco Race crown.

To win the women’s doubles at the Uganda International Open, Kobugabe partnered Marble Namakoye. She also won the mixed doubles with Brian Kasirye, all in straight sets.
Police FC and Uganda U20 (Hippos) lethal striker was named the best for the month of March after a brilliant display at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

Kakooza helped Uganda reach the finals and was also the tournament top scorer with five goals in six games.
The trio will receive their awards/ plaques next week during the USPA Quarterly dinner.
