Nile Stout Rugby Premiership: Rams vs Mongers

Rams (03) 03

Penalty: Kana Joseph

Mongers (08) 08

Try: Andrew Olweny Drop Goal: Adrian Wasswa

Mongers required Andrew Olweny’s try and Adrian Wasswa’s drop kick to walk away as winners against Rams at Makerere Rugby Grounds.

The Entebbe-based outfit huffed and puffed until their hard work paid off under the sun drenched field in Mulago.

All points of the tie were scored in the first half and margins were not extended in the second half, the visitors claiming bragging rights.

Rams’ Richard Lumu returned to the side to feature at number 10 and even though his prowess kept them within touching distance, the efforts weren’t sufficient enough to change much.

Both sides squandered countless game changing opportunities, mostly handling errors for the home side in the second half.

Olweny opened Mongers’ account when he crashed over from scrummage but Rams replied thanks to Kana Joseph’s penalty accuracy off the tee.

Just before half time, Adrian stole three more points away from Rams when he split the posts with a fine drop kick.

The final half was dominated by several kicks for territory and three missed penalties, two for the visitors.

Rams should have scored a try but a blind pass just within a metre from the try line explained the fans agony late on.
