Many an active sportsman will ponder of life after active service in the jurisdiction of his or her diligent work tasks on the field of play.
Seldom, retired sportsmen tend to struggle with life off the field of play.
Perhaps, with good planning, a fraction of former sportsmen have been absorbed into community and lived decent lives as well years after their life on the grass, clay and indoor confines where sport is played.
It is upon this back ground that Rhinos Athletics Club; a mother body that currently comprises of Rhinos Rugby club and two basketball clubs (Charging Rhinos and Amazon Rhino put pen to paper on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Rotary Vijana Poa (meaning the Youth are okay).
The three year partnership was signed at the lavish lake side Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala on Wednesday, 21st April 2021.
This momentous event happened on the first day of the 96th Rotary District 9211 Conference and Assembly happening at the five star hotel.
In attendance at the pact signing ceremony was the Rotary Vijana Poa team leader Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa (also the past District Governor Rotary District 9211 in 2015-2016), the vice team leader Jane Kabugo (Past Assistant Governor), a board member Mebra Lwabaayi (Past Assistant Governor, also chairperson of enterprise development and mindset change program) as well as Rotary Vijana Poa Ambassadors Apollo Ampimwize and Charles Tamale, Rogers Mbaziira (Rotary Vijana Poa programmes coordinator), Devota Asasirwe (Rotary Vijana Poa program administrator), among others.
Rhinos Athletics Club’s strong delegation was led by the chairman Rhinos Rugby club Alex Kalimugogo, head coach Martial Tchmkam, committee member Paul Mukama as well as some players; Andrew Kalaali (captain), Arnold Kiiza, Allan Olango and Timothy Bulooti.
According to Owek. Nsibirwa, the partnership will tentatively last three years and will be reviewed after that initial duration with a joint budget by the two parties as signed in the MOU.
Rotary Vijana Poa and Rhinos Athletics Club have signed an MOU that is intended to bridge the gap of many youths through mindset change and entrepreneurial development. We want to enhance commercial awareness through sports which has proved to be a key tool of discipline and promoting healthy living. There is a lot that the youths can do alongside sports as carpentry, plumbing, art and craft as well other things. In his submission, the Rhinos Rugby Club chairman Alex Kalimugogo lauded the partnership with Rotary Vijana Poa, one that he envisages as a blessing to the Rhinos’ big family.

For starters, Rhinos Athletics Club is a sports franchise that has Rhinos Rugby Club featuring in the Uganda national rugby league as well as two basketball clubs Charging Rhinos and Amazon Rhinos for the men and ladies respectively.
A lot more is being planned for the growth of Rhinos Athletics Club.
The MOU is the dedicated and concerted effort to tackle youth challenges not limited to youth unemployment to rhyme with the vision and mission of Rotary Vijana Poa.
Rotary Vijana Poa’s vision is to ensure that every youth is running a sustainable enterprise or being gainfully employed.
The mission spells out in bold; “To create opportunities where youth start, grow and sustain their enterprises while enabling those seeking employment to become professional and productive”.
This is enabled through Rotary Vijana poa pitch nights, enterprise development and mindset change training, incubation centers as well as the internship and apprenticeship program.
Meanwhile, the Rotary District 9211 conference and assembly at Munyonyo will climax on Saturday, 24th April 2021 under the theme “End of an era, Beginning of a new dawn”.
