Former Uganda Cranes International Jackson “Mia Mia” Mayanja has added to the voice demanding for the immediate release of jailed weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko.

“Julius Ssekitoleko does not deserve to be in jail. He is a sportsman who had given his soul and body to represent Uganda at the Olympic Games. He needs financial help and counseling than being arrested” Mayanja disclosed.

Mayanja, also the president of Uganda Football Ex-Internationals Association has appealed for the quick intervention of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni and all relevant authorities to assist.

Ssekitoleko was arrested at Entebbe International Airport upon deportation from Japan where he had tried to escape after learning that he would not participate in the Olympics Games.

He was whisked away from the Airport as he was unable to talk to the family members and taken to the CID headquarters in Kibuli.

Since Friday night, he has been kept at Jinja road police station, exceeding the mandatory 48 hours of holding prime suspects.

His mother Juliet Nalwadda and pregnant wife Desire Nampeewo have since cried loudly for the release of the young weightlifter.

Different sportsmen, politicans, journalists and key stakeholders have since come out to demand for the urgent release of Ssekitoleko.
