Yassar Mugerwa at Shire Football Club

Midfielder Yasser Mugerwa has returned to the country after six years away in South Africa and Ethiopia.

Mugerwa will play the 2021 – 2022 Uganda Premier League season at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club.

This comes after the creative midfielder agreed personal terms with the KCCA management following the expiry of his employment contract at Coffee in Ethiopia.

Mugerwa thus reunites with head coach Morley Byekwaso with whom he had worked with at Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU).

To choose KCCA, it was a decision well thought about and calculated despite having held talks with Express in the first instance.

The former Super Cubs, SCVU, Nkumba University and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) player left Uganda in 2015 for South African giants Orlando Pirates where he spent two seasons.

He then left Orlando Pirates for Ethiopian record champions St George.

Mugerwa featured for two other Ethiopian clubs Fassil Kenema and Coffee before making a decision to return home.

At KCCA, he still finds familiar faces such as utility player Denis Iguma with whom he played at SCVU.

He thus brings forth the worthy experienced to the Kasasiro team and the immediate task at hand will be in the CECAFA Clubs Kagame Cup set to take place in Dar es salaam, Tanzania next month.

Capped 7 times for the Uganda Cranes, Mugerwa established himself as one of the best passers of the ball in the country and his work ethic in the middle of the pack has never been questioned.

He joins other new faces at the club as the returning Brian Majwega, Arafat Usama.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
