Shadir Musa Bwogi

Uganda’s boxing team (Bombers) captain Musa Shadir Bwogi is the last man standing on the team for the East African country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Bwogi takes on Georgian Eskerkhan Madiev during the round of 16 for the men’s welterweight (63-69kgs) on Tuesday 27th July 2021 at the Kokugikan Arena (11 am).

The Ugandan had got a bye in round of 32, had chance to watch Madiev defeat Azerbaijan’s Lorenzo Collazo on Sunday.

Bwogi has expressed the readiness to take on the Georgian.

“I am mentally and physically ready for the fight. I happened to have watched him in action and I know what to do and how” Bwogi disclosed.

He is the only Ugandan boxer left in Tokyo after Middleweight boxer David Kavuma Ssemujju has lost by a unanimous point decision 5-0 to Algeria’s Younes Nemouchi in the round of 32 on Monday.

The first female boxer at Olympics Catherine Nanziri also lost to Japanese Namiki Tsukimi by a 5-0 unanimous point decision in the round of 32 bout on Sunday.

It should be noted that out of the seven Olympic medals that Uganda won since the maiden appearance in 1956, four of these have been in boxing.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s male swimmer Ambala Atuhaire will take to the swimming pool later at 1 PM in the freestyle catergory.
