Singleton Golf Match Play Challenge (Season 6):

Qualification Round: Saturday, 22nd January 2021 – Mode of play (Stroke play)

Theme: Vegas

Arguably the most exciting and eagerly awaited championship on the Ugandan golfing calendar, the Singleton Match Play Challenge is back for season Six.

This comes after an abrupt end to season five owing to COVID-19 pandemic related lockdowns, the golf series is set to return for its sixth season.

To that effect, an enthralling qualification round to tee-off the sixth season will be held this Saturday January 22, at the traditional home; the Par 71 lake side Entebbe Club.

Played on a medal-four ball better ball format, the competition has attracted over 228 players who will be subjected to a qualifying round (played on stroke play format) with the theme night “Vegas” at the 19th hole experience.

The qualification round will lead to the 64 pairs (128 players) chosen for round one that is slated for February 12, 2022.

An official press conference was held at the lavish terraces of the 1901 founded golfing facility on Tuesday, 18 January 2022.

The launch was attended by Entebbe club captain Jacob Byamukama, Michael Monnie (Treasurer), Ivan Mugisha (country manager, Rwandair) and Uganda Breweries’ Christine Kyokunda (brand manager of spirits).

“The top 64 pairs from the qualifying round will make the cut. Only players who are fully paid-up members of their respective clubs are eligible to play in the Challenge,” Jacob Byamukama, the Entebbe Club Captain.

Started in 2017, the Singleton Challenge has been an enormous success with a mix of competitive golf and fun-filled 19th hole experiences, as UBL has offered Shs 350,000,000 in sponsorship.

“I cannot tell you how proud we at UBL are of the Singleton Challenge. Singleton is about crafting first impressions while creating lasting ones. The Singleton Challenge has within a few years of existence cemented its place as Uganda’s best golfing adventure climaxed with the most remarkable 19th hole experiences,” Christine Kyokunda, head of spirits at Uganda Breweries Ltd.

As is the tradition, the six-month long challenge will be held in a series of knock-out tournaments that will be held every second Saturday of the month.

The winning pairs from every month will advance to the finale in June.

Innocent Nahabwe and Adoch Luwum were the last winners of this championship in 2020.

The season six winning pair will be rewarded with a fully-paid trip to a major golfing tournament slated for January 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Rwandair has reserved 10 air tickets to the top performers.

“Rwandair is proud to be associated with The Singleton Match play golf championship. Since inception, we have been part and shall continue to sponsor the tournament and associate with this sport since golfers are frequent travellers via air transport” Rwandair’s Mugisha noted.

Other partners of the Singleton Challenge include NCBA, DSTV and Riders Lounge Entebbe.

Like for the previous editions, the professionals will join in later (total kitty) is yet to be revealed.
