The fate of the 2022 National Rally Championship season opening event in Mbarara remains in balance following a delay in issuance of an event permit.
Mbarara rally is scheduled for this weekend. However, the actual dates of the event remains an issue in contention between the FMU and the organising club.
Kawowo Sports learnt that January 21-22 were the initial set dates for competition as per documents submitted to the Road Safety Council, however, the organising club later changed to January 22-23.
Following a meeting on Tuesday between the Sporting Commission and the organising club, Kawowo sports further learnt that the club agreed to run the event as per recommendations from the road safety council.
As of Wednesday evening, the organising club had not yet complied and responded to the agreed upon terms; an action that prompted the Sporting Committee to write to the FMU management committee with a no issuance event permit recommendation.
The management committee has now called a crisis meeting to decide on the fate with just a day to the event.
