AFCON 2021 (Round of 16):

  • The Gambia 1-0 Guinea
  • Cameroon 2-1 Comoros

AFCON debutants The Gambia progressed to the quarterfinals after a 1-0 spirited win over Guinea 1-0 at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam on Monday evening.

Musa Barrow scored the all-important goal for the side coached by Tom Saintfiet.

Barrow, a forward at Italian side Bologna struck in the 71st-minute, latching onto Yusupha Bobb’s through ball and shrugged off a challenge to slot home inside the left post.

Both countries completed this tie with a man less following second-half dismissals of Yusupha Njie and Ibrahima Conte.

Guinea’s Conte finished at the back post from Jose Kante’s low cross on the right in the 77th minute but their celebrations were abruptly halted by the offside flag.

Moments later, Morgan Guilavogui was denied by the crossbar.
