With just a day to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) Annual General Assembly, three members of the Senate have chosen to stay away from the occasion.

Former Presidents Jack Wavamuno, George Kagimu, and Dusman Okee will not attend the assembly citing the irregularity in the termination of former Senate members McDusman Kabega and John Prinsloo.

The three former heads of the motorsport federation penned their absence in a letter to the management on Thursday.

“The Senate has found it difficult if not impossible to perform its duties because the service of members of the senate McDusman Kabega and John Prinsloo as per article 7.3.2(1) were in our opinion irregularly terminated,” reads part of the letter from the former presidents.

The letter further notes that the January 2020 Extra-Ordinary Assembly renewed the tenure to four years.

“We are of the strong view that this matter needs to be resolved in order for the Senate to resume its business and hope the general assembly will address this matter,” added the letter.

The FMU management and Senate constitutional mix-up started in October 2021 after the Senate sent an interim order staying the Extraordinary Assembly that was due in November.

FMU management’s response to the Senate affirmed that the order was inappropriate and that the Senate acted out of its constitutional mandate in directing to stop the assembly which is the supreme organ of the federation.

Still in the response from FMU, they highlighted the ineligibility of the two Senate members; Kabega and Prinsloo.

FMU’s constitution requires Senate members to be appointed after every ElectiveAssembly. The current management was elected into office in February 2020.

In November last year, the federation named Oscar Kihika and Martin Singer as the new members of the senate.
