Kampala Queens FC vs Kawempe Muslim Ladies
IUIU Grounds, Kabojja
Kawempe Muslim Ladies Football Club will hope to start the new season on a perfect note as matchday one of the 2021/22 climaxes on Wednesday.
The Valley Warriors will make a short trip to IUIU Grounds in Kabojja to face Kampala Queens in a game that promises to be thrilling.
Fresh from Uganda U20 Women’s National Team duties, Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi who also serves as coach at Kawempe Muslim indicates the target is to collect maximum points on Wednesday.
“I’m aware the team has not been together for some time given the number of players that have been engaged with the National Team and myself as well but our target is to win the game against Kampala Queens which helps to set the tone for the rest of the season.” He said.
Samalie Nakacwa, Aisha Nantongo, Asia Nakibuuka, Diana Natukunda, Shakira Nyinagahirwa and Hadija Nandago have all been part of the U20 Women’s National Team that got eliminated from the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers by Ghana last week.
Despite training with the team for only one day, Kiyingi is confident they will be in good shape to face Kampala Queens.
“We could have challenges in playing as one unit because the players have not been together in training. But still, I’m convinced we have what it takes to claim victory.”
Changes at Kampala Queens
Kampala Queens come into the new season with several changes made right from administration, the technical team and the playing stuff.
The team acquired the services of Hamza Lutalo who replaced Isma Mukiibi. The latter has now been relegated to assistant coach role.
Wednesday’s game will be the first test for Lutalo who has little or no experience in Women’s football. However, he could rely on his ability to nurture talent, a thing he has done with boys especially in schools.
Nalugya faces former paymasters
Midfielder Shamirah Nalugya was one of the biggest and shocking transfers made in the just concluded window.
The player featured for Kawempe Muslim Ladies in the previous two seasons on loan from Isra Soccer Academy but chose to try elsewhere, settling with Kampala Queens.
Her debut at Kampala Queens will therefore come against her former club.
The other new recruits include Sasha Nalubwama, goalkeeper Prima Mugidde and winger Zaina Nandede.
The team however, will be without captain Fauzia Najjemba who could be on her way out with a deal in Europe on the verge of materializing.
