The 11th edition of the Kyambogo Open Woodball Championship was held on Saturday, 19th February 2022.
Over 70 players took part in the day-long event at the Kyambogo University playground with action in singles, doubles, mixed doubles, team events and corporates per either gender.
Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Eminents, Ndejje Corporate, Ndejje University, Kisubi, UNEB, Kyambogo University, Makerere University are some of the institutions ably represented and performed well as well.
MUBS’ Charity Nagaba won the women singles event with a total of 103 strokes, followed by teammate Mary Namara (114) and another MUBS’ player Jackie Naula (115).
Florence Mukoya completed MUBS’ clean sweep in this category with 118 strokes over two rounds.
Men (Seniors – Singles)
Isreal Muwanguzi (Eminents A) tallied 43 and 49 for a total of 92 strokes in two round to win the men singles’ event ahead of teammate, Emmanuel Opio (95).
Doubles:
MUBS’s pair of Mary Namara and Charity Nagaba scored 48 strokes to win the female doubles’ event ahead of the Ndejje Corporate duo of Nalukwago & Nabaggala (53) and Kyomugisha & Nankya of Kyambogo University who scored 57.
Mixed Doubles:
Another MUBS’s gold podium finish was in the mixed doubles as Ssebugwawo & Naula combined to score 46 strokes ahead of Charles Ssensalo & Nasanga (Ndejje University) who scored 54 strokes.
Makerere University’s Kasibante & Akiror (57) won bronze.
Corporates:
Ndejje Corporates’ Makoha & Magarura (23) won the male corporate event ahead of Kisubi Corporates’ Kalungi & Ochwo (28)
The corporate event for the female was won by Kisubi as the pair of Nanyonjo & Nakazzi scored 30 strokes to take gold, five strokes better than UNEB’s Amongin & Orone.
Mixed Doubles:
Ronald Kitosi & Rose Matovu (Ndejje Corporate) won with 28, two strokes better of Kisubi Corporates’ Jackson Masiga & Babirye.
Stroke woodball club’s John Collins Ssemmanda & Nabukalu (30 strokes) took bronze.
This is one of the tournaments on the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) calendar.
