Kemisi Lutajani is a personality who has befittingly worn various coats as a sportsman, politician, businessman, comedian, and pro-people leader.

As a leader, this jovial current mayor of Lugazi Municipal Council is a flexible character, adored to the brim by the young and aged, male or female in equal measure.

To become the mayor, he won democratically having metamorphosed from the youth cells in Mehta as an active and diligent sportsman.

Lutajani is a jack of all trades in the sporting sphere having played Golf, Football, Badminton, Tennis, Boxing, Cycling, and an active vivid fan, even as a mayor at present status.

Football Addict

Lutajani tags football as his alcohol that makes him “drunk” and satisfied at all times.

I like football so much. In fact, it is my alcohol that I cannot live without. Todate, I am a strong fan for Uganda Cranes as well as my community clubs in Lugazi.

Born at Kawolo Hospital to the late Issa Kemisi and Christine Nagawa, Lutajani hails from the slum confine of Geregere Majani in Lugazi Municipal Council.

Lutajani studied in a wide variety of schools due to varying reasons.

He had his elementary education at Mehta Nursery school before switching to Geregere Safi Primary School for P1-P2 classes.

For P3-P4, he was at Wagala Primary School, then moved to Bagumba where he attended for one week only.

He moved to Kibubu Academy Primary School as he completed primary four class and shifted to Lugazi West Primary School for P5 to P7.

Lutajani completed his O and A level studies at Mehta Secondary School although in between, he studied at Lugazi Homeland College and Pico for brief spells.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in marketing from Nkumba University, where he was also president of the Abaya Abaya fans’ club.

He vividly recalls the passion for supporting football right from the early days in primary school.

“I used to support football from primary level during the Wadada’s time at Lugazi West up to university level where I was a president of the funs club Abaya Abaya fans’ club. I used to move with the school team at high school level as a sole supporter in Jinja, Arua, and everywhere the team was to go. Lugazi Homeland College school also had given me a scholarship for supporting their team,” he recounts.

Upon graduation from Nkumba University, he was employed by the Mehta Group of Companies as the assistant manager sales and marketing, a position that he still holds thus far.

Joining Active Politics

Right from school days, Lutajani has been a leader, one adored across the divide.

He was students’ leader from primary school until university in the entertainment docket.

At Mehta secondary school, he was the entertainment prefect where he also doubled as a lead actor, comedian and singer.

Upon joining Nkumba University, he was a member of parliament and minister of campus affairs.

“I have been a leader since I was young. I used to mobilize colleagues and they respected my views and opinions,” he revisits.

After graduation, he developed the idea of leading his local community, a vision he accomplished through the 2021 General Elections when he was entrusted by the electorate as Mayor (chairman, Local Council III of Lugazi Town Council) for the five-year term (2021-2026) on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

“I thank the people of Lugazi Municipal Council for the trust and confidence they have in me. I am always with my people and will remain specially indebted to them,” Lutajani acknowledges.

Lutajani loves to associate with his electorate at all times as he balances his work chores at Mehta and Lugazi Town Council.

He is also a regular figure at sporting events and other social functions with his consistutency.

He also possesses an enviable philanthropic heart as he has organized sports and social events, donating various prizes and rewards.

To the hundreds of toddlers and early teens, he is the perfect Father Christmas who is the “Mr. Lugazi Santa” to provide gifts in form of chocolates, balls, sweets, books, pens, and other scholastic materials.

True to his campaign theme-line “Transparency, Efficiency, and Effectiveness: Each one Teach One” Lutajani is vastly spreading the message and service delivery within the Lugazi central division.
