Fixtures | Sunday, March 13

  • Jinja SSS vs. Nyakasura – 10am, Lugogo
  • Aziz Damani Development vs. Premier – 10am, Kyambogo
  • Challengers vs. SKLPS – 10am, Entebbe

Challengers went down by 26 runs last weekend to Ceylon Lions in a game they were favorites to win. Ceylon Lions one of the promoted teams from the second division stopped Challengers in their tracks at the Lakeside Oval but this time, the opponent is SKLPS who lost to Wanderers by 5 wickets on the opening weekend of the season.

The loss to Ceylon Lions hurt Challengers’ title ambitions and if they are to stay in the title hunt they have to take care of SKLPS.

Challengers are certainly a side not short on quality with the likes of Arnold Otwani, Frank Akankwasa, and Richard Agamire from the national team set up who are complemented by the likes of Zephaniah Arinaitwe, Perry Wazombe, and Emmanuel Hasakya.

SKLPS are in it for different reasons as they fight for their survival in the top flight. The opening day loss to Wanderers surely hurt their survival ambitions and whatever they can get out of the game will be a bonus for them.

The other two games of the weekend are second-division fixtures. Aziz Damani Development will be taking on Premier in Kyambogo and Jinja SSS will be taking on Nyakasura in Lugogo.

Jinja SSS will make the trip from across the Nile to take on Nyakasura who were humbled by Aziz Damani Development last weekend and quickly need to get back to winning ways if they stand a chance of promotion.

The student-packed Jinja SSS will be eager to make an impression but will be facing a wounded opponent that is angry after a humiliating defeat to Aziz Damani Development. Pascal Murungi is yet to shine as much as he did at the World Cup but he has the likes of Ivan Thawithemwira, Joseph Baguma, Matthew Musinguzi to count on for the points.

Aziz Damani Development has a spring in their step after humbling Nyakasura last weekend but they face a stern test when they take on Premier who will be playing their first game of the season.

Aziz Damani Development will be relying on their U-19 World Cup stars for the results. Ronald Lutaaya, Yunus Sowobi, Fahad Mutagana, and Munir Ismail will be the go-to men for runs and wickets.

All the games start at 10 am on various grounds.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
