William Adriko, the head coach of Koboko District representatives at the ongoing USSSA Boys Football Championship, Francis Ayume Memorial School is hoping for the best despite a poor start in the national schools’ championship.

After his team was beaten 2-0 by Jinja Progressive (Jipra) during a mid-day fixture at the Mvara PTC playground, Adriko said his team was on course.

Jinja Progressive took all three points through a brace by Innocent Rwothomio, who scored 11 goals in the qualifying. He was behind

“We have not won any game yet but I am very happy with my players. They have shown fighting spirit so far,” Adriko said.

Koboko has in the past been dominated by Nyangilia and Day Star but they were both extinguished in the qualifying rounds to the nationals.

The team is boosted by experienced players who play in the Regional League. They include

defender Jawadi Apeli, Maliyamungu Yasir, David Dara who play for Tipsa while striker Godswill Sabiiti who scored four goals in the qualifying, plays for Koboko Rising Stars.

Although they have ended up on the losing end twice, after a 3-0 loss to Uganda Martyrs High School Rubaga on the opening day, Adriko is hopeful his team has time to bounce back.

“I think we can still bounce back,” he said.

They are bottom in the group that has Teso College Aloet, St Jude SS Masaka, Mbale Progressive, and St Pontiano Ngondwe.
