Victoria Pearls win in Kenya

Final: Uganda W v Kenya W

Match Summary:

Kenya 80 all out

Uganda 81/4

Uganda won by 6 wickets

The final of the Kenya Women’s T20 tournament was a contest between two fierce rivals for whom the title isn’t enough but bragging rights for who is the best in the region is the ultimate crown.

Tanzania who came into the tournament as favorites failed to make the final after losing to Kenya and Uganda during the group stages.

There is always very little to separate both Kenya and Uganda and when Kenya won the toss they elected to bowl, something that played into Uganda’s plan.

Uganda has not set a score throughout the whole tournament and asking them to bat 1st might have been a better idea.

Uganda never allowed Kenya to put together a good partnership with Evelyn Anyipo (3/12) and Captain Consy Aweko (2/11) dried up the runs while picking wickets.

Victoria Pearls claim 2022 T20I Quadrangular Tri Series

Daisy Njoroge (21) who knows the Ugandan players well because of her experience playing for Pioneer in the local league was the only stand-out batter for Kenya.

In reply, Proscovia Alako (30) blew away any chances of a Kenyan win with some nasty blows her 30 coming off just 13 balls and it included 2 big sixes.

Despite losing 4 wickets Immaculate Nakisuyi (14) and Stephanie Nampiina (14) make the result sure as Uganda won with 51 balls to spare.

Janet Mbabazi continued her good year for the Victoria Pearls as she was named the tournament MVP with 116 runs and 9 wickets.

A great end to the year for Victoria Pearls who picked up some valuable T20 ranking points from the tournament as well.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
