Lewes kicked off 2023 in style with a 3-1 home win over Bognor Regis Town in the Isthmian League on Monday, 02 January before 1295 fans at the Dripping Pan Lewes.

A brace from Joe Taylor and a goal from Ryan Gondoh gave the home side the deserved victory during the Sussex Derby.

It was the consolation, perhaps from Bognor Regis Town’s towering centre forward Nathan Odokonyero that lit up the game.

Lewes, a side coached by Tony Russell took the early lead through Taylor’s 6th minute penalty.

Ryan Gondoh extended the lead in the 24th minute, tapping home a rebound following Taylor’s initial shot.

The home side led 2-0 by the mandatory half time break.

Coleman De-Graft narrowly missed making it 3-0 by the Rocks were saved by the crossbar.

Odokonyero pulled a goal back for Bognor Regis Town with an impressive 68th minute strike, giving hope to the visitors for an eminent comeback.

The forward cut inside from the right before unleashing a left footed strike straight into the net past the goalkeeper Lewis Carey for his 13th goal of the season in the league.

Taylor however broke the hearts of the Rocks with a late 98th minute goal.

Bognor Regis Town fielded the 19-year-old new loanee Kilian Cahill in goal whilst Tom Chalaye returned after four weeks down following a knee injury.

The Rocks will return to action on Saturday, 7th January 2023 with a home duel against Aveley (3 PM).
