Overview:
The 2023 Entebbe Internal Children's Badminton tournament had varying age categories from the age of 7 to 19 in either gender. The one-day championship was played at Entebbe Institute club
The third edition of the Entebbe Internal Children’s Badminton tournament played at the Entebbe Institute Club attained its desired objectives.
For starters, this day-long championship was played on Saturday, 7th January 2023, the first badminton tournament played in the virgin year, organized by Entebbe Badminton club.
There were different categories played by either sex in the varying age groups of U-7, U-10, U-13, U-15 and U-19.

Betty Apio, the main organizer of this tournament was left a delighted party after a successful event also graced top badminton coaches in the country as William Kabindi, Joshua Muguluma as well as the Entebbe Municipality Deputy Mayor Charles Kabwama, among others.
I am humbled that we held a very successful Entebbe Internal Children’s Badminton Championship 2023. The tournament progressed well with new talents exposed which is our objective of showcasing talented players so that they get clubs and education bursaries.

Appreciation:
Apio saluted the different stakeholders who joined hands to make the tournament a success.
They ranged from the parents of the players, the players themselves, coaches, sponsors, management of Entebbe Institute club, local leaders, the media among others.
“I want to thank in a special way everybody who had a hand or two in the organization of this tournament. From the parents, coaches, players, sponsors, management of Entebbe Institute club, media, Entebbe Municipal council leaders and everyone else, I say a big thank you” she added.

This is a great initiative to have the children gathered together to play Badminton. Talents need to be developed and as leaders we promise to give the necessary support towards such programs.

Outstanding performers:
Hamza Mahad Kirunda won the U-15 boys final, beating Edward Owaruhanga 2-1 (21-15, 12-21, 21-13).
Julius Zamba and Graham Okwir followed suit accordingly.

U-15 Girls:
Rebecca Ijhuka was 2-0 winner over Brenda Namanya (21-15, 21-18) during the final of the U-15 girls cluster.
Benitah Nassiwa and Faith Elizabeth Kyokushaba played second fiddle.
U-19 Girls:
Ketty Ndagire won 2-0 against Annamarie Vennie Nakanwagi (21-12, 21-12).
Yashifa Nakanwagi and Mirembe Ssuubi Namuddu were the respective runners up.

U-10 Girls:
Maria Asumpta Nakimuli overcame Martha Nalutaaya 2-0 (21-12, 21-12).
Naira Bashira and Edith Nabukenya were runners up.

U-12 Boys:
Atlas Christian Ssendiwala beat Jordan Baguma in the final of the boy’s U-12 category 2-0 (11-7, 11-9).
Don Liam Emaru and Arthur Katongole followed therein.
U-7 Boys:
Reagan Okello overcame Joseph Kaddu in the final of the boys’ U-17 event 2-0 (11-4, 11-9).

Doubles:
Vivian Mary Nalule playing alongside Claire Namirembe edged the duo of Victoria Bington Namubiru and Joan Kimberly Ssendiwala 2-1 (15-21, 21-15, 24-22).
Aaron Ndawula and Nathan Nsibambi won the boys’ double’s event, after beating Marvin Bakaki and Arafat Tendo Kibirige.

Mixed Doubles:
Aaron Ndawula combined with Brenda Namanya to overcome Batham Kaweesi and Claire Namirembe 2-0 (21-18, 21-19).
Rewards:
The exceling players were rewarded by certificates, medals, plaques and gift hampers.
Over 50 players took part in this event.
